<p>Nestled along the serene shores of majestic Lake Osceola, the Lake Tuckaway Home is one of Winter Park's most unique and secluded residences. The home, which can only be seen by boat or those lucky enough to be invited guests, is truly one of the area's most exclusive hidden treasures. Signature Landscape Contractors was entrusted with the complete landscape design and implementation of this remarkable property, a traditional lake house envisioned by the esteemed Varnava Design Studio.</p>
<h3>Design vision</h3>
<p>The Lake Tuckaway home's timeless architecture and organic material palette inspired a landscape that feels both luxurious and naturally understated. The design vision centered on crafting a lakeside retreat for multigenerational living, where the homeowners, extended family, and especially their young grandchildren could gather, explore, and create memories.</p>
<p>The outdoor environment needed to offer ample entertainment space while highlighting playful, and at times fantastical, elements that would delight a younger generation. The design had to balance this spirited energy with the home's traditional and serene lakeside setting. Outdoor seating and dining, watersports, boating, hide-and-seek, and even the family's annual easter egg hunt were all considered essential parts of the homeowners' lifestyle. Each zone needed to connect seamlessly to create a calming and cohesive environment, even amid the joyful chaos of family activity.</p>

<p>Signature Landscape Contractors executed a comprehensive landscape and hardscape plan that included:</p>

<li><strong>Landscape design:</strong> site elevations and grade planning; extensive underground stormwater management and containment system; installation of large character specimen oak trees, magnolia trees, podocarpus hedges, bamboo screening, and comprehensive lakeshore management featuring stone rip rap.</li>
<li><strong>Plant palette:</strong> a curated selection of woody ornamentals and groundcovers, each chosen for texture, movement, and long-term resilience. All species were selected specifically for their ability to thrive in a lakeside environment while offering a visually captivating landscape that enhances the property's architectural character.</li>
<li><strong>Hardscape integration:</strong> crafted design elements utilizing oversized planters, oversized lawn steps, and synthetic turf to enhance outdoor dining and summer kitchen areas, with carefully crafted pathways and seating areas leading down to the lake and the boat dock.</li>

<p>The entryway, one of the most apparent challenges, became one of its most memorable features thanks to Signature Landscape Contractors' ability to cater to the homeowner's imagination and creative vision. The primary challenge was an irregular, long, and winding entry drive that was narrow and blocked any ability to feature the home's access.</p>

<li>Thoughtfully positioned animal sculptures from the client's collection, rendered in low-maintenance materials, break the monotony of the approach and invite a sense of discovery.</li>
<li>Incorporating creeping fig and greenery against the white tone walls, creating a sense of openness in what is a narrow and confined space.</li>

<p>Located in the highly sought-after downtown area of beautiful Maitland, FL, and just steps away from the enchanting shores of Lake Sybelia, sits the Sybelia Farms House. Newly built by renowned Winter Park builder Michael Charles Homes, the residence offers refined craftsmanship and thoughtful architectural detailing.</p>
<p>Signature Landscape Contractors was selected to lead the extensive outdoor design and development of this remarkable property. The exterior spaces were envisioned as an entertainment haven, creating a welcoming retreat for grandchildren and family to enjoy the outdoors year-round.</p>
<h3>Design vision</h3>
<p>The Sybelia Farms House was envisioned with a modern interpretation of traditional architecture. The homeowners were particularly drawn to the character and charm found in rural California farm landscapes. Working closely with our clients, the Signature team explored a variety of landscape and hardscape styles that could support this vision.</p>
<p>Ultimately, the design direction evolved into a California Patina Farms aesthetic, one that elevated the home's architectural heritage while fulfilling our client's desire for a relaxed, rural-California garden in the heart of a small Florida downtown.</p>
<p>The rear patio was designed to accommodate generous outdoor entertaining, complete with a summer kitchen. A private cabana off the master suite created a serene retreat for the homeowners to unwind. The signature feature of the project is an elongated swimming pool, intended for active lap swimming, crafted to blend seamlessly with the landscape, enhancing the space rather than commanding it.</p>

<p>Signature Landscape Contractors executed a comprehensive landscape and hardscape plan, including:</p>

<li><strong>Landscape design:</strong> grade planning; underground stormwater management and containment system; installation of large character trees, extensive gravel-based garden areas, magnolia trees, podocarpus hedges and elegant olive trees; screening with extensive use of Eagleston hollies. All plantings were surrounded by carefully curated California-Patina-Farms-inspired organic and loosely planted shrubs, herbs, and ornamentals. One of the most distinctive elements of this project is the use of gravel garden beds, inviting spaces designed to be wandered, explored and meandered through.</li>
<li><strong>Hardscape integration:</strong> from the intricate brick pattern driveways and pathways to the clean and subtle natural tones of the expansive pool deck, the design paid homage to its Patina Farms theme. Large hand-crafted Tuscan planters were utilized to elevate the olive trees surrounding the waterline, bringing scale and timeless character to the landscape. Seamless integration from the rear patio to the pool deck and into the private master cabana with its fireplace was essential to the design. The oversized spa was paired with a unique bubbler system on a complimenting sun shelf, enriching the atmosphere with tranquil movement and sound. A custom outdoor shower and a waterfall further enhanced the subtle, organic aesthetic.</li>

<p>The unique depth of this lot, one of its most defining features, led the client to request an unusually long and expansive pool. With a feature of such scale, the design risked overpowering the space. Signature's challenge was to meet the client's desire for a large memorable pool while maintaining a subtle, soft aesthetic that would not dominate the property.</p>
<p>A second challenge arose from the client's preference for an eclectic, loosely planted garden palette, an approach not typically incorporated into Signature's more structured, sculpted design language. Integrating this California-inspired softness into a traditional Florida setting required thoughtful research, refinement, and restraint.</p>

<li>Thorough research of diverse landscape markets to selectively introduce plant varieties typically found in California, ensuring they would still thrive within Florida's climate and Signature's performance standards.</li>
<li>Exploration of new design expressions, pushing beyond the proven, more formal traditions of Signature's work to craft a fresh, organic, and understated aesthetic while preserving craftsmanship and functionality.</li>
